Importing new torque transfer technology from the 473bhp Porsche 911 3.6 Turbo and dropping it into the less powerful 911 3.8 Carrera 4S has added driveline refinement. The new electro-magnetic coupling technology diverts all power and torque to the rear wheels when that's where traction needs to go. The previous Carrera 4S was always left with around 6% torque running through the front axle thanks to the older viscous couple refusing to give up all of its authority.

See For Yourself: Porsche Panamera production starts in Leipzig

After years of anticipation and ramp-up, Porsche has finally begun production of the Panamera four-door model at its factory in Leipzig. But don't take our word for it, you can go and see for yourself as the German automaker has re-opened the factory to the public.

While preparing the German assembly plant, where the Cayenne is also built, for production of the Panamera, Porsche had shut down the location for eight months, during which some 22,000 square meters of capacity were added to accommodate the new assembly line. Now that the renovations are complete, visitors are once again welcome to tour the facility, free of charge, by booking online. So if you find yourself headed to Saxony, why not take a swing by? Fearful of the wrath of OPP Police Chief Julian Fantino — especially since I was driving a Porsche — I set the cruise control at 119 kilometres an hour exiting Toronto and let the traffic flow by. More as a curiosity than any road testing intent (because one presumes spending $80,000 on a car means you don’t have to worry about fuel costs), I zeroed the digital fuel economy readout thingamajig and started cruising to Ottawa.

By the time I got to Oshawa, I was impressed. You may not buy a Porsche for its fuel economy, but you can’t help but be impressed by any sports car that averages seven litres per 100 kilometres while motoring along at a buck-twenty.
