Fearful of the wrath of OPP Police Chief Julian Fantino — especially since I was driving a Porsche — I set the cruise control at 119 kilometres an hour exiting Toronto and let the traffic flow by. More as a curiosity than any road testing intent (because one presumes spending $80,000 on a car means you don’t have to worry about fuel costs), I zeroed the digital fuel economy readout thingamajig and started cruising to Ottawa.

By the time I got to Oshawa, I was impressed. You may not buy a Porsche for its fuel economy, but you can’t help but be impressed by any sports car that averages seven litres per 100 kilometres while motoring along at a buck-twenty.
